MINING INFRASTRUCTURE
The main components of electrical mining infrastructure include:
- Power transmission and distribution from Eskom:
- Electricity is transmitted from the power plants to the mine site via high-voltage power lines. Once on the mine site, the electricity is transformed to lower voltages and distributed to various mining equipment and facilities via a network of power cables and substations.
- Alternative Power generation methods are currently being implemented by the Mines, typically utilizing diesel generators, gas turbines, hydro & photovoltaic power plants.
- Mecopol specialized in the supply and construction of these overhead lines, substations and cable installations.
- Installation electrical equipment such as Transformers, Switchgear, Motor control centres, distribution boards, aerators, including safety control systems / devices.
